J-Bay Pro Surfing

The town of Jeffreys Bay, South Africa hosts the worlds top surfers for the Corona Open J-Bay this July.

This World Surf League event takes place at the jewel of surfing in South Africa, and is the perfect place to spend the winter holidays watching the best surfers in the world tear into the walls of one of the worlds best right hand point breaks.

This years highlights include the return of the greatest of all time, Kelly Slater, he obviously can’t stay away from his favourite pointbreak, homegrown standouts Jordy Smith and Mikey February hoping to make the most of local knowledge and Joel Parkinson announcing that this will be his last pro contest ever!

Watch tour professionals talking about their experience of J-Bay and what it means to them:

East Coast Winter Swells

With occasionally monster swells marching up the coast from Cape Town in winter, the sheltered and offshore East Coast is the place to be. Corduroy lines wrapping into sculpted bays and consistent swells mean a surf trip up the coast is never short of water time.

Flat Day Fun

When it does go flat for a day or two, or the wind changes there are plenty of other activities to do including game drives, kiteboarding, sandboarding, quad biking and fishing.

Top places to check out in J-Bay include the original fish and chips shop with its legendary visitors book signed by top surfers, the plethora of surf shops with their range of top boards shaped for the local points, and the Supertubes boardwalk with its sweeping views of the waves, surfing and the bay.

Be sure to try out the calamari and other fresh seafood washed down with a locally brewed beverage.

Surf Mecca

With plenty of accommodation along the garden route and in and around Jeffreys Bay, adding the Jbay Winterfest stop to your trip is a great way to enjoy the spiritual home of surfing in South Africa and witness the skill and speed of the worlds top surfers.
