Cape Safari Day Tour – A Day to Remember
Day trip visitors enjoy an almost three-hour game drive across the 10 000 ha game reserve in an open safari vehicle in search of the Big 5.
As you enter the reserve you may encounter a herd of Red Lechwe before dipping down towards the lions’ reserve. You will be blown away by the majestic beauty of the male Cape Barbary lion. A rare specimen, this breed is noticeable for its extraordinarily large black mane.
From thereon you will encounter an endless number of antelope species ranging from the beautifully marked Oryx; its less attractive, yet still fascinating, cousin the wildebeest; eland, the largest antelope in Africa and the nation’s pride, the springbok. You will be greeted by herds of zebra as they momentarily raise their heads to see who you are before returning to their grazing or you might come across the threatened rhino with its horn intact.
After exciting twists and turns spotting elephant, giraffe and hippo you will arrive at your last stop before returning to the lodge for lunch – the cheetah sanctuary. Here you will gain key insight into the behaviour of cheetahs and the science behind caring for them in conservation programmes. These fascinating creatures are the heart and soul of Inverdoorn Game Reserve and the staff at Inverdoorn are dedicated to their care and raising awareness about their plight.
Three-hours on a dusty cape safari day tour game drive will surely build up your appetite. On returning to the lodge, a staff member will be waiting to offer you a cool, clean cloth to wipe away the dust of the game drive before a delicious three-course, buffet lunch is served. Summertime in the Karoo is characterised by clear, sunny days so lunch will most likely be served beneath the Eucalyptus tree alongside the succulent garden.
Inverdoorn offers good, wholesome South African cooking with a twist of French sophistication. All meals are prepared with only the freshest, seasonal produce, sourced directly from local farms.
Should the weather conditions be just right, you might be surprised by two very special residents of Inverdoorn, Velvet and Iziba, the safari lodge’s tame cheetahs* on their daily walks with their handlers – the perfect end to a perfect Day Trip Safari.
* Cheetah interactions are subject to the right weather conditions and availability. They are NOT available in the winter season (1 May – 30 September). Children aged 16 and under will NOT be able to partake in cheetah interactions. Babysitting services are available at a nominal fee
