Constantia Wine Valley

We begin in the lush Constantia Wine Valley where we step back in time and trace the history of viniculture in South Africa by visiting the country’s first wine estates. We meander through the rolling vineyards on bicycle, learning first hand about various vintages, enjoying private wine tastings with expert sommeliers and gourmet picnics under shaded oak trees, all the while framed beneath the mighty Table Mountain.

Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Paarl

Our next two days are spent further afield, making our way out of Cape Town to the world-renowned vineyards of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. We enjoy a guided cycle through the Paarl valley, visiting the dramatic Taal Monument to the Afrikaans language, the awe-inspiring Paarl Rock and Nature Reserve – and we top it off with a signature cheese and wine tasting at two stunning wine farms overlooking the valley!

We explore the old town of Stellenbosch with its classic Cape Dutch architecture, oak-lined avenues and of course sample its excellent wines! And how could we forget Franschhoek (French corner in Afrikaans), the self-styled culinary capital of South Africa that was initially settled by French Huguenots. We indulge our palate with gourmet cuisine at any of the award winning restaurants, and enjoy the locally crafted Method Cap Classique – South Africa’s version of champagne – before shuttling back to Cape Town with enough wine to last us a lifetime!
