Description
Karkloof Zipine Tour
The Karkloof Zipline is based in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands where is traverses a spectacular valley of indigenous mistbelt forest in the Karkloof Forest Reserve.
On this tour we start with a detailed safety briefing followed by kitting up with a full body harness, pulleys and climbing gear before setting off. A short scenic 4×4 drive to the top of the valley is next before its time to head into the tress.
From the first launch platform a unique world appears as you gently slide along the steel cable to your next platform in the heart of the forest canopy.
All groups are escorted by a lead guide and a safety guide to ensure your safety as you zip from tree to tree.
The platforms are built high up in the forest canopy and offer different views of the surrounding forest, including a magnificent 20m waterfall, the clear sparkling forest stream and vistas across the expansive Karkloof valley far below.
While relaxing on the platforms between ziplines, your guides will enthusiastically explain the ecology of the forest by pointing out different trees and the magnificent giant ferns way below. For twitchers the bird life is incredible and includes the opportunity of spotting Emerald Cuckoos, Knysna Turaco’s, a wide variety of raptors and if you are lucky, the elusive Narina Trogon or endangered Cape Parrots.
The forest is also home to a variety of mammals, but it is the loud calls and fearsome tree swinging of the Samango monkeys that you will remember best.
