This trip is designed so that clients have an exciting experience in both seasons and is run almost all year round (excluding late summer when the river is too low).

Using specially designed inflatable crafts called ‘Gekos,’ you’ll navigate the crystal-clear waters of the Palmiet River. These versatile tubes let you recline and float lazily along serene pools or face forward for an adrenaline-pumping ride through small rapids. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or thrills, this tubing experience caters to all adventure levels.

When to Go Tubing

  • Spring and autumn: Enjoy fast-flowing white water tubing, where you’ll conquer exciting rapids under the guidance of expert instructors.
  • Summer (low water season): Drift peacefully along the calm stretches of the river, soaking up the tranquil scenery.

Who Can Join?

The Palmiet River tubing experience is family-friendly and suitable for anyone aged 8 years and older. No previous tubing experience is needed—qualified, APA-accredited guides will teach you how to steer your Geko and ensure your safety along the way.

What to Expect on the Day

  • Meeting point: Oudebosch Reception at Kogelberg Nature Reserve, Kleinmond.
  • Gear up: Change into your swimsuit or hire a wetsuit, then get kitted out with a lifejacket (PFD) and helmet.
  • Scenic walk: Take a short, 1km walk to the river’s starting point.
  • Tubing adventure: Spend 4–5 hours on the water—floating, paddling, and conquering rapids.
  • Return: Walk back to the meeting point at the end of your journey.

What’s Included:

  • A 4–5 hour guided tubing experience
  • All boating and safety gear, including lifejackets and helmets
  • Expert guidance from qualified APA-accredited guides
  • Necessary permits for Kogelberg Nature Reserve

What’s Not Included:

  • CapeNature Conservation Fee (currently R60 per adult payable at the entrance)—free with a valid WildCard or if you’re staying in the reserve.
  • Wetsuit hire
  • River shoes (old trainers or outdoor sandals—no slip-ons!)

  • Warm change of clothes for after the trip

Important Information:

  • Group size: Minimum of 8 people required for the activity to proceed. If the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be contacted to reschedule.
  • Children: Welcome from 8 years old.
  • Weather: This activity is weather-dependent. At medium to high water levels, expect thrilling white water rafting on two-person inflatable ‘crocodiles’ or four-person rafts. During low water, the Gekos provide a gentler ride. We’ll monitor conditions and keep you informed.
