Description

Palmiet River Tubing Experience

The Palmiet River tumbles through the Fynbos covered mountains of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, just outside Kleinmond, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town.

Specially designed inflatable craft called ‘Gekos’ have been developed for the Palmiet River Tubing Experience and are now used countrywide. If used in a reclining position, they provide a comfortable way to drift lazily along the pools and channels of the river and if used facing forward, an exciting way of tackling the small rapids.

During autumn and spring, fun and exciting white water tubing trips are available and in the low water summer months, there is nothing better than a relaxed float along this beautiful river.

The Palmiet River Experience is suitable for all ages from 8 up and no previous experience is needed. Qualified guides with an intimate knowledge of the river and its environment provide instruction on how to steer your craft.

What to Expect:

Meet in the morning at the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. You’ll change into your wetsuit and get kitted out with a lifejacket (PFD) and helmet before walking the 1km to the river. Spend around 4 hours on the water before walking back to the meeting point.

All boating and safety equipment is provided including PFDs (‘lifejackets’) and helmets. Wetsuits can be hired if needed.

Since this excursion takes place in a sensitive natural environment, group size is limited to 24 people per group day. The trip price includes permits, all equipment and APA qualified guides. It doesn’t include the CapeNature Conservation fee (currently R60.00 per adult and payable on entry) – if you have a WildCard or are staying in the reserve, you don’t pay this.
